Has anyone ever felt the strange feeling of being afraid of leaving things behind, even though deep inside you know its the right thing to do. Or being uncertain of something new, excited and nervous, leaving a situation of comfort for one of hard work, discomfort and perhaps loneliness. Can one look forward and behind at the same time, unsure of which direction to go?
So i have started a new life in the Bay area--Santa Clara to be more accurate. This past week has been a bit rough but has also been exciting. I bought my first set of golf clubs, which i already dented through repeated mis swings, as well as dinner with the family on monday, wednesday and friday. Indian food on wednesday was quite tasty although my taste buds had some trouble with a few of the spices.
Orientation starts of Wednesday.

Change is never easy, DJ. That said, no one who knows you has any doubt that you will be a smashing success at Santa Clara... I love your reference to looking both forward and backward at the same time. I suppose that's what confusion is all about. Have faith in yourself, my boy--all the rest of us do!
Totally know how you feel. We've all been there - many times - in our lives. Remember how you felt when you first moved to LA? Home was still 90 minutes away...and I'm sure you felt this exact same way. Lord knows I did when I moved from Mo Val to SF. It was terrifying. And then you find that you just give yourself over to the change, and you trust that you're going to grow and flourish and before long, your "home away from home" is strangely...well...HOME. This is what I believe, with all my heart, will happen to you. And if you find that it's not happening, and you hate it? You can always move back. You are NEVER stuck. And you have a family who backs you 110%, and loves you, and is rooting you on across the miles - always, no matter what.
Miss you, Bub.
Every single last one of us has had that feeling. I made a very hard decision to move AWAY from Santa Clara to deliberately HAVE that feeling. It's one of the most valuable things you can do for yourself because it helps you figure out who you are. You're so lucky to have some family so close by.
I can also say, from experience, that you, sir, will LOVE SCU. It is a place that will embrace you and provide you with so many amazing experiences...just don't let the bubble fool you..there is way more to life than hot co-eds laying out by the graham pool (is that still there?).
Blog more so we can hear all about it....and go visit my mother.
