did you know that if a spouse dies wrongfully, the surviving spouse can sue for damages resulting from loss of sexual intercourse?
interesting.
oh also. bill maher called the Pope a Nazi. seriously? to millions, the Pope is the living incarnation of Jesus Christ. the tangible representation of the God millions look to for guidance and support. alleging that the Pope supports Nazism, the political ideology that is associated with racism, hate and the systematic killing of 7 millions Jews during WWII, cannot be good for ratings. way to go bill. smooth move.

Interesting is right! That's for real, seriously?
Nice one, Bill. Real nice.
yes i knew that too :)
the Pope was a Nazi youth... didn't hear the comment, but perhaps that is where it came from?
sorry i meant hitler youth, and later it seems he was in the german anti-aircraft corps... although it seemed he didn't do much and shied away from the war when he was able.
I have to agree with Bill Maher on this one. Being part of the hitler youth and participating in the genocide of 6 million jews (whether directly or indirectly) is grounds enough to be called a Nazi and in my humble opinion makes you an incredibly bad catholic. I"m just saying.
OH...and Pete and Grace should just get someone to sublet their apartment.
I hope I don't get judged by the actions of my youth, but rather, by what I do with the whole of my life...
Dad
Didn't see the Bill Maher program, so I'm not sure what exactly he said.
In my opinion, it would be correct to say that he WAS a Nazi, having been part of the Hitler Youth and fighting in the army. I'd be surprised if Mahler said he IS a Nazi.
As for those who think Ratzinger is the living incarnation of anyone, I would say he's the living incarnation of Ratzinger, period. The Catholic Church doesn't believe in reincarnation as far as I know - that is a tenet of ancient Indian belief systems, such as Hinduism.
But he did inherit the power of the papacy, following the secretly guarded methods used by the church to select the Pope.
As far as being judged on what he does with his whole life, rather than in his youth, I'd wholeheartedly agree with that, Dave. We shouldn't write this guy off just because of what he did in WWII, anymore than we should condemn a US soldier for having been drafted to fight in Vietnam.
That said, what exactly has Ratzinger done since becoming Pope? Did he publicly repudiate his participation in the Hitler Youth or fighting in the Nazi army? Don't think so, at least I've never heard of it. Repentance IS part of the sacrament of reconciliation, at least I thought it was. Before becoming Pope a few years ago, did he actively work to publicly denounce the pedophilia scandal? Nope, he tried to quash the discussion altogether.
These are the problems I have with him. To me, he's a politician, customizing his remarks for a specific audience. The Pope shouldn't pat US Catholics on the head, say a few remarks when he visits, and call it "healing" etc. Nonsense. He should Do Something that warrants his claim of moral authority.
My .02... Sorry if my remarks offend in any way.
Chris
